I have been asked kindly and not so kindly why I left The Black Church Page (TBCP) Forum. I really wanted to sit and think about it before I just stuck my foot square in my mouth and straight down my throat. If any of you guys read Abortion my story (revised version) you will see my reasons for being a part of the page. The Black Church page was (in my own words)….”a place where African Americans went to hash out problems affecting their communities utilizing the one tool that African Americans have almost Universally recognized as a beacon of hope and leadership and that is, the community based church. Well, along came Rev. Jeremiah Wright and his venomous sermons. I was saddened and horrified at the quote, “Sen. Barack Obama’s pastor says blacks should not sing “God Bless America” but “God d*** America.” I know some of you may think, “Ok, and what does that have to do with anything?” Well, lots! Firstly Using the Lords name in vain in the pulpit is sacrilege, Secondly there are already enough divisions in the body of Christ. I have decided to speak to this issue once and for all and shed a little light on the subject. First and foremost, I belong to the body of Christ, not the black body, the white body. “The” body! Yes racism at one time was the reason churches were segregated, but now you don’t find that to be the reason. So what is the reason then? Having studied Psychology in college as a minor focus area for my degree I can tell you I learned one thing about humans and that is this. We are hard wired creatures of habit. Some things we simply do because we like it!!! Ok. Black folks were brought here from Africa, and even in slavery they never forgot their roots and the rhythm of the drum has always managed to find it’s way into everything they did. So naturally you find drumming, foot stomping, hand clapping, singing, harmonizing and dancing in a lot of black churches. In a lot of Latino churches their culture is expressed in their churches as well. Same for Irish, Korean, so on and so forth. So now it’s no longer a race thing it’s cultural. People know what they like and they go for it. Why do you think churches have 3 different services; Contemporary, Traditional and Stiff as a board services (sorry had to toss that one in). Paul said 1Corinthians 9:22 “I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.” Paul was willing to understand the ways and cultures of others so that they may be saved. Now I admonish you to read the whole chapter so you can also see that he didn’t turn the church into a club either! For instance you don’t start passing out shrooms to get all the shroom users to come to church now do yah? In essence, I know that and believe that there are different strokes for different folks, and that is fine and dandy, as long as the separation is not based on race but on cultural or just simple preferences (like hymns versus modern Christian music). The problem I had with TBCP is Rev. Jeremiah Wright was on the board of advisor’s, I was shocked by this and saddened. After the big blowup with Obama, there was no talk of removing him, so I politely removed myself. I cannot have any dealings with those that stand in alliance with someone who says and does such things. So yes, I contacted one of the administrators and asked them to make my account inactive and I have not been back. I can only speak highly of the members and do not wish ill will to any in the body of Christ. I will not be a party to rumors or innuendo’s regarding any members of TBCP they are trying their best to be leaders in a community that is currently experiencing a vacuum in leadership. The African American community currently is in a state of emergency and is being destroyed by Abortion, AIDS, Murder, Drugs, Prison, and a whole host of things that this the forum is addressing. All of those in the body of Christ should stand together and pray in times such as these because we know that Jesus is soon to come. Time my friends is not winding up… Time is winding down….Tick tock it’s 11:59pm do you know where your soul is going?
