A Very Misunderstood Disease Explained.

August 9, 2008

Ok a lot of people know I like to do research, so when word came that well known comedian Bernie Mack had died due to Sarcoidosis, my phone rang non-stop. The most common question was, “what on earth is Sarcoidosis and is it prevalent in blacks?” This post is for all of the questions that I have been asked and some that I haven’t been asked yet.   I wish to send my condolences to the family of Bernie Mack, it is a shame that he died at such a young age.

Bernie Mack was just 51yrs. young

All information seen from this point on, came straight from Wikipedia.

Sarcoidosis, also called sarcoid (from the Greek sarx, meaning “flesh”) or Besnier-Boeck disease, is an immune system disorder characterized by non-caseating granulomas (small inflammatory nodules) that most commonly arises in young adults. The cause of the disease is still unknown. Virtually any organ can be affected; however, granulomas most often appear in the lungs or the lymph nodes. Symptoms can occasionally appear suddenly but usually appear gradually. The clinical course generally varies and ranges from asymptomatic disease to a debilitating chronic condition that may lead to death.
